Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Red Seal) - 1 Year - Edmonton or Gagetown location) 

 

Reporting directly to the Vehicle Shop Manager, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic will diagnose, troubleshoot, repair and maintain vehicles, in both lifesaving Armor and Defence applications. 

 

Responsibilities/Duties:

(Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following)

 

Quality:

 

  • Consistently meet all specifications and standards in production
  • Perform visual inspections to ensure quality standards are met
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications and assembly instructions
  • Operate machinery and use tools safely
  • Report broken or damaged machinery promptly

 

Quantity:

 

  • Ensure work is performed safely and efficiently, with minimal waste
  • Meet the productivity standards as established
  • Responsible for assisting the supervisor in meeting all production schedules and deadlines
  • Work with the supervisor to resolve any technical, productivity, safety or schedule problems

 

General Duties:

 

  • Perform Mechanic duties at CFB Edmonton or Gagetown
  • Electrical assembly performed to Industry standards
  • Mechanics perform work to required standards
  • Perform general shop duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • Review work instruction, procedures and checklists and ensure materials and equipment needed for production are ready and the work area is prepared
  • May act as a team leader for small groups of employees
  • Assist in any work area and aid other team members when assigned
  • Clean work areas as required
  • Do maintenance on equipment and keep maintenance records
  • Wear and use appropriate safety equipment
  • Ensure all required certificates are current

 

Other:

 

  • Travel as required
  • Adhere to all environmental, health and safety regulations and follow the environmental and quality management systems
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Education/ Professional Certification:

 

  • Heavy Equipment Mechanic certification, preferably with tracked vehicle experience (TLAV or Leopard) 
    OR
  • Military Vehicle Tech MOSID 00129
    OR
  • Truck and Coach Mechanic

 

Security Clearance: Reliable

 

Experience:

 

  • Previous experience working in a high-volume production facility
  • Experience as a vehicle technician, preferably with military background and familiar with tracked vehicles

  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks

  • Able to lead a team
